Representing the Residents
The HGC represents residents that live in Hurlingham, Hurlingham Village, Hurlingham Gardens, Glenadrienne, and a small part of Craighall. The borders of our area are shown in the image
Security Portfolio
The HGC manages a local security contract (currently with Beagle Watch) on behalf of its members where the focus is on community policing and crime prevention. This includes having Beagle Watch proactively patrol common spaces with the mandate to investigate and assist wherever possible.
This integrated security solution has dramatically reduced criminal activity in our suburb over the past 20+ years.
Members’ contributions cover:
- Dedicated Beagle Watch patrol vehicles that operate 24/7 in the neighbourhood
- A network of cameras around the suburb with the latest surveillance software.
- The road closures in the HGC area
- Public space security monitoring of Braamfontein Spruit, Hurlingham Park and other green areas in the suburb
- Monthly attendance at Community Policing Forum/ SAPS meetings (with the station for our precinct: Randburg Police Station)
HGC efforts have resulted in the HGC having one of the lowest consistent crime statistics in the geographic territory covered by the Randburg South African Police Service.
Environmental Management
The Braamfontein Spruit is a green belt right on our doorstep and the Committee ensures that it remains a clean, safe space to be enjoyed by cyclists, dog walkers and runners. It also helps keep the neighbourhood safe and secure.
Thanks to members’ contributions, the HGC:
- Employs four gardeners to manage invasive vegetation along the spruit, maintain walking and cycling paths, clean up rubbish, and general maintenance of both the spruit and the neighbourhood
- Pays for the maintenance of Hurlingham Park (a park that the HGC adopted from the city). This park is maintained by a volunteer resident and his gardener.
- Contributes to the Project Flower campaign that employs Urban Threat Management to remove illegal structures and pollution along the Spruit.
- Maintains and monitors the perimeter fence.
- Works with City Parks to cut grass, maintain paths and protect the environment.
- Periodically fixes potholes.
- Arranges regular clean-ups and social activities along the Spruit with residents and neighbouring Residents’ Associations.

Building Compliance
The HGC oversees and monitors compliance with our Precinct Plan, which has been approved by the residents of the HGC zone, including Glenadrienne, Craighall, Clynton and Riepen Park. This ensures the integrity of your properties and maintains values while allowing for suitable development and urban densification done in a responsible manner.
The Committee also monitors compliance of land use, zoning and building plans, and co-ordinates the submission of objections to the City.
Projects and Events
The committee coordinates ad-hoc projects and various events in the neighbourhood which benefit residents. These include upgrades to infrastructure, traffic calming measures, spruit cleanup days, neighbourhood picnics/gatherings, family events (e.g. Halloween trick-or-treat event), nature walks, etc.
For the latest projects and events happening in the neighbourhood, please check out the News section of this website.

Staying in touch with residents
Our network of volunteer HGC street representatives welcomes new residents and maintains the WhatsApp group for each street. They help distribute important community information quickly, are knowledgeable about the neighbourhood, and can help with any questions.
Regular newsletters are distributed to our community via an HGC Announcements channel where we provide updates on projects, community events, and any community issues.
A voice for residents
Residents’ meetings are held when necessary to discuss matters of importance, such as changes to bi-laws, city projects that affect our neighbourhood and new infrastructure projects that need approval from the City. The HGC Committee then represents residents’ interests with Ward 90 and Ward 103 Councillors, as well as various Ward Committees at the City of Jo’burg.
The HGC Committee also meets regularly with SAPS and Beagle to discuss security issues, and lends the voice to issues raised by neighbourhood communities.
